Michael Kruszelnicki Employee Profile

Michael Kruszelnicki, M.Eng P.Eng.

Senior Fire Engineer

Mike has a passion for fire safety and the application of fire and building codes to complex engineering problems. Mike has more than 20 years of experience as well as a Masters degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Carleton University.  He has worked on a number of very unique projects including fire protection design for museums, high rise buildings, tunnel systems, office complexes, embassies, prisons, heritage buildings, and churches to name a few.  He also enjoys finding solutions to problems in smaller scale projects including condominiums, mercantile and business spaces.  Mike enjoys the challenge of working through codes and standards and applying these towards solutions analytically and methodically.  There is nothing he enjoys more than telling clients “I have found a solution for you”.

  • Hobbies

Mike loves playing boardgames with friends and family and enjoys being on the water in a canoe or kayak having paddled the entire course of the Rideau waterway from Kingston to Ottawa in 2022. With a love for his church community and beyond Mike serves as a board member with two non-profit charitable organizations. Mike also volunteers his time on a number of building code committees including NRC (National Model Codes), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), CSA Z94.4 (Respiratory Protection) and is an active member of the Ottawa Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).

  • Best Part About CEL

CEL allows me to get involved with all sorts of projects of varying size and type. I can work on a question of fire separations one day and then review exiting issues the next day and discuss safe protection measures of an industrial facility on another day. CEL lets me explore creativity and engineering simultaneously as I apply a black and white code in a world that is anything but.
